Action by janitors at Oxford Properties to demand better wages and working conditions

Janitors came out to demand fair pay, safe working conditions and lay-off protections as they continue bargaining their first contract with Bee-Clean.

On May 28th, newly unionized members working for Bee-Clean Building Maintenance held an action in front of Oxford Properties in downtown Vancouver. Oxford Property Group contracts Bee-Clean to clean their office buildings.

Janitors came out to demand fair pay, safe working conditions and lay-off protections as they continue bargaining their first contract with Bee-Clean.

Since the start of the COVID-19 crisis, janitors across the country have been declared “essential.” They have continued to keep the spaces where people work clean and sanitary. However, employers like Bee-Clean continue to treat us as disposable.

Bee-Clean has been fighting as hard as they can to get out of providing us with adequate staffing levels, sick days and fair pay.

Tenants and the public at large are not safe while janitors continue to work in unsafe conditions. The economy cannot reopen while janitors have no job security and are paid rock-bottom wages.

SEIU Local 2 members will not back down until our demands for a fair wage and good working conditions are met.
